What we’ll build:

The website I am going to create will be an e-commerce website, that specifically sells candles. Its going to feature a landing page that will include information about the business and what they sell. Eg, 100% organic candles etc.

Using some UX Design elements I am going to create a shop front that the user can view all candles via an ordered set of columns and rows.

Something like this:

Another UX feature I would like to have, is a search feature. Especially with the likes of scented candles people grow accustomed to which scents and smells they like other others. So having a search feature makes it a lot easier for people to search a pacific scent they might like.

Why build it?:

The reason for building this website is rather simple. During Covid19 when most physical stores were closed due to restrictions, People were left with having to purchase most things online.

The issue I found was that most elderly people who wouldn’t be that tech savvy struggled with this quite a bit. After asking my older relatives what they were struggling with it typically came down to the UX layout being to be confusing and they were getting lost on the website.

My goal is to create a website that will display these products and get you to checkout with as few clicks as possible. Purchase buttons nice and clear aswell as good search optimization.

There will also be a cart feature in case customers are interested in buying something they can add it to the cart and continue shopping and pay for all items at the end by clicking on a basket.

How To Build it?:

To successfully build this website I am going to first take a look at possibly using a shop or storefront type of theme. I am going to look for ones with next to no restrictions on changing around the layout to my own needs.

This is an example of a theme that I found on wordpress’s theme’s section.

It’s a simple theme with a nice big header at the top and the products at the bottom in their own “Tiles”. Nice and easy for any viewer to see.

For another element to the store, I would like to have a plugin that will allow the user to add an item to the cart and read a little info about it. The idea of this is that the user wont need to click into each item to get a brief description of it. Think of it as “Window shopping” On this hover menu there will be a “Read More” option which will re-direct them to the products full dedicated page with the rest of the description and any other information/options.

Interacting:

I decided to take a look at one of my class mates blog to see what they were going to end up adding in terms of UX design features.

I see that Dominika is making an Art review website that will allow users to view and interact with reviewed art pieces. Not exactly the same ideas as my online store, However she is using some of the same UX features.

One of these features is that of a simple layout for displaying content. For her its going to be Art, For me its going to be Candle's.

Dominika is also Considering a "Wishlist" Feature which is pretty much the same as a basket feature that I am going to feature on my own site.
